Gear that solves real problems
-
Better carbon, smaller pegs
Most carbon pegs use cheap carbon, so they're made big and chunky to survive. Great until they hit a rock and stop dead. We use better carbon: smaller pegs that slip past rocks into actual soil.
-
Honest weights
Our 50g foam mat is properly 50g, not "50g if you don't count the bit we forgot." Every weight we list is the real one, because if you're counting grams, so are we.
-
Ultralight from the bottom up
"Ultralight" gets slapped on 1.4kg tents. We start where the weight actually hides: pegs, cord and mats, because if you want a light pack, every bit matters.
Two pals who got a bit too into it
We met at school in West Lothian, got into hiking during covid, started weighing things, then started weighing each other's things. Then came MYOG, because the gear we wanted either wasn't sold in the UK or cost stupid money.
We made some bad gear. We made some alright gear. Eventually we made stuff we actually wanted to keep using. That's ULgear: no grand plan, tested on real UK trails, usually wherever in Scotland we've got a free weekend.
